Day 9 — Jessie Hanson: I Wish I Had Someone to Write This To

What would happen if the sun didn't rise today? Well, I hope it does not. Because then morning would never come and tear me away from you and we could lie here together forever.

What would happen if the moon did not rise tonight? I hope it does not, because then our slow evening together would never end with night's cold demand.

What would happen if the tide never rose again? I hope it does not, because then I could sail away with you endlessly, into the far horizon, and the shore would never call us back.

What would happen if the earth stopped spinning? I hope that it does, because then this season of our lives would never close and we could be young and beautiful forever.

But, my love, the sun will rise, and I will have to leave you. I will leave you for a moment, but I will always return, just like the sun.

The moon, too, will rise and our evening together will close. The evening will close, but on its coattails will come the night of sweet sleep and quiet breathing, as my heart learns to beat in time with yours.

The tide will rise again, calling us back to shore. But the shore will be our home, our place of rest and delight, where will tell each other the stories of our journeys that we already know, because we took them together.

The earth will not stop spinning, because for the earth stop spinning would mean that I will never get to love you as you grow more beautiful with age. The earth will always spin because I could never cease loving you.
